Yeast Infections and Early Menopause

Women can suffer with various infections; not the least of which is a Yeast infection.

There are causes and symptoms that you need to be aware of. There are also effective treatments available. This is in no way intended to be diagnostic or to replace medical treatment. This is for your information only.

A Yeast Infection and Symptoms

There is naturally occurring yeast in the vagina. An over-growth of this yeast develops into an infection. This infection can cause a variety of symptoms including an itching that is so severe, many women want to scratch it till the itch goes away. There may be a burning sensation and pain during intercourse. The reason is that these things can suppress the flora - (naturally occurring bacteria) in the vaginal area that prevents the overgrowth of yeast. The outer area of the vagina becomes red. A cheesy looking discharge and painful urination may also occur.

Yeast Infection Causes

If you are Diabetic or taking steroidal treatments for illness you may be more prone to
getting yeast infections. If you are taking steroidal medications for illness, you may also be prone to yeast infections. Long term use of antibiotics has also been linked to the development of yeast infections. Birth control pills, wiping from back to front and douching can also kill the flora that prevents the overgrowth of yeast.

Other possible causes of yeast infections include the type of clothes, such as very tight jeans that may activate a yeast infection that thrives in dark, moist areas. Sitting around in a wet bathing suit can also encourage overgrowth of yeast.

Hormonal changes such as pregnancy, early menopause, and menopause that cause fluctuations in hormone levels can also be a cause for the development of yeast infections.
This happens because the immune system defenses may fluctuate as well including the "good" bacteria that inhibit the overgrowth of yeast, thus causing a yeast infection.

Early menopause may have some similar symptoms as those that are present in yeast infections. This would include possible painful intercourse and changes in the vagina caused by early menopause symptoms and changes in the uterus and vaginal area. Fluctuating hormones can cause yeast infections. Yeast infections and early menopause
can both affect your reproductive organs.

Treatments and Preventions

Treatments can be prescribed medications. There are also over-the-counter treatments including creams, suppositories, and oral medications available. Yes, you can get the OTC treatments and treat yourself but if the yeast infection is severe, it is advisable to have your doctor examine you.

Yeast infections can be prevented by not sitting around in a wet bathing suit, avoiding tightly fitted jeans, and wearing underwear that allows air through. Cotton underwear is the best choice. Never douche unless the doctor prescribes it and avoiding bubble baths can also prevent yeast infections. It is best to avoid the frequent use of antibiotics as a preventive of yeast infections. Yogurt is also known to help prevent yeast infections.

Conclusion

Yeast infections can be prevented and treated. Early menopause can't be prevented but the symptoms can be relieved. Yeast infections and early menopause are female issues. Although you can get over the counter treatments for yeast infections and early menopause, it is best to be first seen by a physician to rule out any other health issues.
