Smoking Early Menopause: Statistics, Early Menopause
Statistics
Early menopause is caused by a number of
reasons such as heredity, reproductive surgery, and ovarian damage that
might occur during juvenile cancer treatments. There is one more likely
link; it is smoking (and) early menopause. There are some signs of early
menopause that you should be aware of. There are some statistics that may
help to make the connection for you.
Signs of Early Menopause
Early menopause typically begins with missed periods and irregular bleeding.
Spotting between periods may also occur. There are hot flashes, night
sweats, mood swings and sensitivity in the breasts. Incontinence, vaginal
dryness and headaches may also occur. Depression, fatigue, and a reduced sex
drive are also present in the onset of early menopause and perimenopause.
Not every woman will experience the same signs nor will they experience the
same intensity of symptoms. Remedies that worked for your mother may not be
effective for you. It is always wise that if you have any of these things,
to consult your doctor to rule out anything that might be more serious.
Statistics
Women who smoke will likely enter early menopause - that is menopause that
occurs before the age of 45. This will put them at earlier risks for heart
disease and osteoporosis.
Women who are aged 59 or 60 who smoke were 50% more likely to enter early
menopause than women of the same age who did not smoke.
Women who smoke but quit 10 or more years prior to menopause are much less
likely than current smokers to have stopped menstruation. On the other hand,
women who began smoking later in life were more likely to enter early
menopause. Smokers who quit smoking before middle age may not suffer any
such symptoms and less likely to enter early menopause. Women who are
reported to be in poor health or widowed are at greater risk for early
menopause.
Women who are very social have a much less lower risk of entering early
menopause.
Conclusion
It is known that smoking is linked to many health conditions such as cancer,
high blood pressure, and low birth weight babies. You would think this is
enough for someone to quit smoking but it is not the case. One more reason
to not smoke or to quit smoking for women is that it has been linked to the
onset of early menopause.
Remedies for this are to never smoke or if you do smoke, to quit before you
reach middle age. Quitting ten or more years before the onset of early
menopause may prevent it from occurring. There are treatments for the
symptoms of early menopause and you should discuss these options with your
physician.

health depends on it.
