Can You Get Enough Omega 3 From Omega 3 Foods?

Although many people are going to supplements right away for all of their omega 3 needs, you might find that you would rather not take a pill every morning – or at least, not any more vitamin pills.

This begs the question: are there any omega 3 foods that will give you enough of this essential substance without requiring that you eat an unusually strict diet?

There are many foods that are high in omega 3. Therefore, it is probably possible to eat enough omega 3 every day without taking supplements.

Some of these omega 3 foods include flaxseed, nuts, kiwis and other fruits. However, these fatty acids are not the same as those found in some of the other omega 3 foods, such as beef, eggs and fish.

The omega 3 fatty acid that you find in plant-based omega 3 sources is called alinolenic acid (ALA). ALA is useful and definitely necessary. Your body can also convert ALA into EPA if necessary. However, your body cannot convert ALA or EPA into DHA.

Unless you can get a source of DHA specifically, you will not be able to get the right nutritients through your diet.

Another major disadvantage of getting your omega 3 this way is that you would have to eat lots and lots of fish in order to get enough DHA everyday. Therefore, it is much more effective to just take supplements.

The best source of omega 3 oils is going to be through fish oil supplements that have been molecularly distilled and concentrated, as well as made from the hoki fish in New Zealand. The hoki is a fish that lives in relatively clean waters and does not need nearly as much detoxification as other fish.

The other advantage of getting omega 3 fatty acids through your supplements is that you can also stick to your existing diet if it is still working for you. Often, switching up your diet will have a major effect on your ability to take off or leave off weight, so you should definitely stick to the diet you are on currently instead of mixing things around.

Don’t settle for low amounts of omega 3 foods – you can do much better than just eating foods high in this fatty acid.
