supplements may contain small amounts of herbs of unknown safety or

sure it provides a breakdown of the ingredients and the quantity of each
herb contained in each capsule or tablet.
3. Check the place of manufacture
As much as possible, stick to herbal nutritional supplements manufactured
within the US. European herbs are strictly regulated and are fairly safe,
but those from other continents have been found to contain toxic ingredients
and prescription drugs. The manufacturer's address and contact information
should be written on the package. Also, non-US supplements usually do not
have a USP approval seal.
IMPORTANT: The FDA regards herbal health products as food, and thus
does not regulate them on the same level as pharmaceutical supplements.
Ideally, herbal nutritional supplements should contain what the labels say,
but this is not always the case. Buy only from reputable manufacturers that
are pharmaceutical GMP compliant to be sure that you are getting no less
than what you are paying for. Before buying, you can also ask your doctor
whether herbal supplements are right for you, and which ones can be trusted
and will work best for your specific medical condition.
