Our guide for Biotin Side Effects

Biotin is a B-vitamin that is produced naturally within the body by positive bacteria found in the small intestine.

Additionally, Biotin can be found in a wide variety of several foods including certain meats, legumes and brewer’s yeast.

There are no known Biotin side effects. Individuals who do not eat a nutritionally sound and well balanced diet may be at risk for Biotin deficiency.

There have been no reports of Biotin side effects; in fact, Biotin is very beneficial for treating a number of skin disorders as well as thinning and balding hair. Biotin supplements are frequently used in the diets of individuals that may be less than nutritionally sound, such as those  people suffering from anorexia, and people missing a portion of the small intestine.

Additionally, since short-term Biotin deficiencies appears to sometimes occur in women who are pregnant, Biotin supplements are often given to women during their pregnancies. Biotin supplements are also added to an infant formula. This is in order to protect against Biotin deficiencies forming, due to a milk-based only diet.

Recent research has suggested that Biotin supplements may also be beneficial in lowering blood sugar levels in diabetics.

While there are no known side effects of Biotin, Biotin supplements may interact with certain antibiotics and alcohol in a negative manner. Primarily, antibiotics and alcoholic beverages prevent the body from absorbing and utilizing Biotin in a healthy manner, as well as destroying Biotin found naturally within the body.

Biotin is available naturally in many foods, as well as dietary supplements. Consumers should be careful before purchasing large dosages of Biotin. They may already be getting a significant amount of this B-vitamin if they are eating a healthy, well-balanced diet. If this is the case, and they only wish to take Biotin on a short-term basis for the treatment of brittle nails, dry skin, or thinning hair, it is only necessary to take smaller doses of Biotin.

While there is no evidence to suggest that there are Biotin side effects related to large doses, it would still be wise to keep doses at about 600 mcg twice a day.

Our Opinion on biotin

Biotin is underrated by many because one doesn't hear about the crucial role of this vitamin. However, this vitamin is difficult to become deficient in as it is in a variety of foods many people consume daily.

An important consideration however, is that its therapeutic benefits usually require a dosage level higher than that of what we can normally obtain from foods. If you are interested in the possible benefits of biotin discussed above, then you may wish to look in to supplementation.

Our tips on choosing a biotin supplement

Since vitamins like biotin work together with other vitamins, minerals and herbs, we believe that health consumers should generally look in to a scientific comprehensive formula. This will give you better results as to taking biotin as a stand alone supplement. Due to supplements being unregulated worldwide, many consumers only have a 1 in 5 chance of buying a product with what is actually stated on the label.

Therefore, buyers should only purchase health supplements that are manufactured using pharmaceutical GMP compliant facilities. This means the company adheres to the strictest of manufacturing standards in the world.

Why not use the best - Your health depends on it..
